In Georgia, no glass is raised without a toast.

At every supra, the Georgian feast, a tamada leads the table through toast after toast: peace, family, friendship, love. Travellers fall in love with it, then fly home with a fridge magnet. Gïo lets them take the toasts home.

Try Gïo

A whole supra, in 15 toasts

Gïo follows the order of a joyful Georgian feast. Each press plays the next toast; each theme has several variants, so no two evenings sound the same. Turn on the voice to hear a draft reading.

    Questions

    Supra, tamada and Gïo, explained

    What is a tamada?

A tamada is the toastmaster of a Georgian feast. Chosen by the hosts or the table, the tamada announces each toast, speaks first, gives the floor to guests and keeps the rhythm of the evening.

    What is a Georgian supra?

A supra is a traditional Georgian feast where food, song and wine are shared and no wine is drunk without a toast. Toasts follow an order: peace, the gathering, the hosts, the homeland, parents, the departed, life and children, women, love, friendship, guests and a closing toast.

    What is Gïo the Tamada?

Gïo is a 10 cm talking figurine shaped like a qvevri, the clay jar used for Georgian wine. Press his grape belly and he speaks the next toast of the supra, opening in Georgian and continuing in your language. Each theme has several recorded variants, so no two evenings sound the same.

Does Gïo need an app, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

No. Gïo works offline on three AAA batteries. All toasts are stored on the device; there is no app, no Bluetooth and no AI running on it.

    Which languages does Gïo speak?

Every toast opens with a Georgian phrase and ends with the Georgian “Gaumarjos!”. The body of the toast is in the listener's language. English and Russian editions come first, followed by other languages such as German, French, Turkish, Hebrew, Armenian, Arabic and Ukrainian.

Can a winery have its own branded Gïo?

Yes. Wineries can order a white-label edition with their logo on the figurine and box, plus one or two toasts about their estate or grape variety, in batches from 500 units with a deposit.

Who writes the toasts, and are they authentic?

The toasts are original texts following the structure of the Georgian supra. Before recording, every Georgian phrase is reviewed by native speakers and experienced tamadas, and the toasts are voiced by a Georgian actor.

    Is Gïo a toy?

No. Gïo is a table accessory and souvenir for adults. His toasts never encourage drinking to excess, and anyone can raise a glass of water or juice.

When and where can I buy Gïo?

Gïo is a prototype in development in Tbilisi. A pilot with three Georgian wineries comes first; then Gïo will be sold in wineries, souvenir shops and at the airport. Write to us to hear first.
